A new study by TNS Russia (dated January, 2015) indicates that Google has overtaken Yandex in popularity among mobile users in major Russian cities.
Google was ahead of Yandex in popularity among mobile users in Russian cities with a population of over 700 000 people. The data show that in January, 12.7 million mobile users visited Google pages (ru + com), while monthly audience of Yandex page was only 10.9 million people.
Social network "VKontakte" is third most popular among users of mobile devices - in January it was visited by 10.8 million mobile users. The top five popular services also includes YouTube and Mail.Ru with a monthly audience of 9.7 million and 9.4 million, respectively.
This is the first study of the company, that counts mobile audience in Russia. It covers the following Russian cities: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Volgograd, Voronezh, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk, Perm, Rostov-na-Dony, Samara, Saratov, Togliatti, Ufa and Chelyabinsk. TNS had previously published only separated data on Moscow and St. Petersburg. These studies also showed the advantages of Google over Yandex.
