In 2016, Internet advertising revenues in Russia will exceed revenues of TV advertising and will account $3.5 billion versus $2.9 for TV for the first time. Consulting company PwC gave this forecast at the yearly average dollar exchange rate of 37.8 rubles.

The gap will even grow by 2019, analysts say, Internet advertising will increase at an average of 14% a year (up to $4.6 billion), while TV, on the contrary, will drop by 10% a year. A reduction in TV revenue will slowdown during Football World Cup in Russia, but even taking this into account TV will make only $ 2.17 billion from advertising by 2019.

Such a trend corresponds to a global trend, but owing to the difficult economic situation in Russia is accelerating, says Natalia Yakovleva, Russian PwC partner . In the present circumstances, advertisers are actively cutting their budgets, she notes.

In the US, Internet advertising revenue surpassed those of television in 2013, reports "Vedomosti". In the UK, it happened as early as in 2009.

Sergei Vasiliev, Director General of advertising agency Vi, in April 2015 said: "In the first quarter of 2015 the entire Russian advertising market fell by 62.3 billion rubles – by 20% compared with the same period last year. Only Internet market demonstrated the 9% growth".
