Grozny is the administrative and economic centre of the Chechen Republic, and the airport concentrates the region's entire scheduled air traffic. The route network has covered 17 destinations across six countries, served by carriers including Aeroflot, S7, Utair, Ural Airlines, Uzbekistan Airways and SCAT (Interfax, 2024). The airport lies at the northern edge of the city with short road access to the centre, which is why it carries the historical name Severny.
